Make sure to shake the test unit a bit!
I am frequently testing my A1C since I have a DOT physical renewal coming up. I'm a type 2 with absolutely horrid blood sugars. But in recent times I overcame my food addiction and learned to take better control of my blood sugars. Thankfully 3 out of the 4 tests worked and represent the efforts of my diet change. The 1st test failed. After reading some advice to shake the unit itself a little bit after injecting the blood sample. I haven't had any issues ! Awesome test. Since an A1C costs around $45 where I live.

Not Accurate Enough to Have Any Value
The test is supposed to measure your average A1C level over the past three months. I took two tests one day after the other (after overnight fasting on both days). Given that the test measures your average blood sugar over the past three months, the readings should have been quite similar. Additionally, on the second day test, I also went to my doctor's office lab and had a professional test done (within about 5 minutes of doing one of the Self Check A1C tests). My values were:Self Check A1 C Test Day 1: 5.0Self Check A1 C Test Day 2: 5.4Doctor's Office Professional Lab (same days as second self check): 5.8So the two Self Check A1C values were off by .4 and .8 from the professional lab. I would say the test would need to be within .1 or .2 of your actual A1C to have any real value, so this is essentially a pointless test.Additionally, when I ordered the test, they sent four tests with an expiration date 6 months out. If you're going to test once every three months (given the test measures your average A1C over the past three months), then the expiration date needs to be at least 9 months out for a four-pack test. (Test 1: right away, Test 2: 3 months later, Test 3: 6 months after first test, Test 4: nine months after first test)

These are expensive, follow instru
I have been using these for about 3 years and and only had one best test. The others were easy to use and no issues, instructions are easy, the hardest part is waiting the 5 minutes. Once when compared to doctors visit I was within .3 but another time it was .7 off, which was quite a bit. It is a tool but certainly not a blood test from a doctor and a real lab.

Accurate testing product for a1c results at home
Just follow the directions they are actually numbered and you will have no problem. I have bought two sets of the four test kits every one of them worked perfectly. The results are very close to the lab results from my doctor. At home I tested 7.3 and the lab said I was at 7.0 I am very pleased with this product. I have seen some of the reviews saying all they got was errors, I'm certain they didn't follow the very simple numbered directions. I would recommend this product highly for accurate a1c readings, I am a truck driver and count on this product to ensure I can pass my physical exam to obtain my D.O.T. medical card. This testing product has yet to let me down.

As accurate as the doctor's test
My A1C fluctuates between 'normal' (barely) and prediabetic. Spring/Summer when I'm outside and active it's normal (5.5-5.6) and then winter comes and I hibernate and eat badly and it's prediabetic (5.8-6.2). My doctor will not let me test in office more than once a year because she says I'm not diabetic. I was getting tested at an ArcPoint place between annual doctor's appointments, but that's expensive. I found out that the doctor's office uses a finger prick test, so I decided to see if they had them on Amazon. Yes! When I got this one, I already had my annual test scheduled with my doctor, so I took this test with me and told the nurse about it. I tested at the exact same time; she did her finger prick and test and then I (without moving from my seat at all), did this test using the same finger so that everything would be the same. The result of this test and my doctor's test were exactly the same, so I feel confident in foregoing the doctor's appointments and only using this test. So happy to have found a way to test every 3 months easily instead of once a year.

Highly recommend this.
I really like these kits. They allow me to track my A1C without having to go to a lab to get a blood test and they help me stay motivated. The instructions for use have to be followed carefully, but after doing it about eight times now I have it down pretty well. Highly recommend.
