Great for axe sharpening

I have used this stone for keeping an edge on my small wood splitting axe.Works well, and is a comfortable shape to hold.It is quite coarse in comparison to other pucks I have used, but is perfectly useable for an an axe.Priced at the lower end of the scale of sharpening stones I think it provides good value for money

Excellent piece of kit

Great stone, coarse side removes nicks and damage, finer side removes a good amount of material and allows you to put a seriously sharp edge back on any axe.Use it on my gransfors and fiskars alike. Equally good.Excellent design which fits beautifullly in the hand and keeps your fingers away whilst you're working all the way to the edge of the blade.Really happy with it and glad that I chose it over the gransfors stone.Would highly recommend.Used dry and with water.Finish with a leather strop and it's razor sharp again!Well happy. Cheers lansky

Handy but patience required

Tried using an old wet stone to sharpen a new axe. Never really understood what the phrase "having an axe to grind" meant before ! If you don't get the grinding angle absolutely spot on, and the stone properly lubricated, you will end up with a blunt axe head, sore shoulder and generally frustrated. The Lansky Dual Grit Sharpener takes the strain out of sharpening any axe head (particularly if you use in conjunction with Lansky's honing oil), as the grinding angle can be easily maintained and adjusted if necessary. The dual grit is useful if you are trying to restore a really badly "dinged" or rusted axe head, but the finer grit is all you will need to bring out a razor sharp edge to any new axe head. It is also handy size to keep in my tool bag and not as brittle, fragile or cumbersome to carry around as a wet stone. I have used it to grind brand new axe heads and just to re-condition the axe after use. Wouldn't be without it.

Restoring the edge

This is a very useful and easy to use honing stone. Its great strength is that it is capable of being hand held and worked into hollow ground corners for axes.Have only used the smooth side but it soon produces a sharp edge with a bit of light machine oil as a lubricant. Value for money and does what it says on the packaging. Highly recommended. Small enough to be portable in the outdoors.

Great product. Recommending!

Great product! After some time spent on researching I got tjos stone. I have just sharpened my brand new Fiskars x7. When it originally arrived, the axe, I noticed that is is not that sharp.I spent some time today sharpening it with the stone, and after that I was able to slice onion at 1mm thick slices. I recommend.

Easy and safe to use.

Very easy to use. Fits into the hand comfortably and makes sharpening axes safe. I sharpened a hand axe and long handled axe with ease.

Does its job well

I bought this to compliment the Bahco 1-100-10-1-2 Hand Bastard Cut File 10in (see separate review) when sharpening my axes. As an experiment I dug an old and completely useless fire service axe out of the shed to see if I could restore it. I used the Bahco file to profile the edge then this Lansky puck to hone it. Within half an hour I got this axe from totally blunt to paper-slicing sharp. The only reason I have not given this puck five stars is because I would have liked it to come with a plastic case to protect it from getting chipped. If it stayed on a tool shelf, this would not be an issue. However, I intend to carry it with me on my bush crafting missions. This aside, the puck works extremely well, is a fraction of the cost of a Gransfors Bruks puck and I am extremely happy with my purchase.

Timeless sharpener which does what it is intended to do

Bought the Lansky puck to keep a good edge on an axe and garden tools. It has been in the toolbox of gardeners and anyone who needs to keep a keen edge on tools and will last a long time. Probably outlast me.I use it with Lansky honing oil and it keeps a good edge on the axe starting with the rougher darker side and finishing with the lighter finer side.To get a really keen edge takes patience. I bought a cheap axe for general work that came blunt. It took a little while to achieve a good edge, but there was something therapeutic about the whole process.Once you have an edge just a few strokes each time a tool is used will keep it up to the mark.
