It will do the job
I recently purchased this item for a stray cat in our neighborhood. I had seen this product listed from different sellers on Amazon and ultimately decided on from this seller. We put it together last night and here is my official review. It was generally easy to put together, it took my husband and I around an hour. However, the instructions said “Panel A” yet none of them were labeled. The sides and top were pretty straight forward so we figured it out. I had read that the house tends to leak, so I put some weather proof protection on all sides of the house (see photo). The bottom panels just pop in, but there are some pretty big gaps (see photo) so I used painters tap to “seal” them. Then we placed two garbage bags over them to better keep out moisture and the cold air (see photo). There are “pre-drilled” holes so you can see where you need to place your screws. However, the hinge that opens and closes the roof didn’t seal on the original placement, so we had to tweak that a bit. The wood also doesn’t seem to want to connect when screwed (if that makes sense). There were lots of times where we’d have to take the screw out and re-do it. The wood also did split a little in different areas.I had also seen reviews of the smell. There is a smell to the house. It smells of paint not it’s nothing that I think wouldn’t go away with time. I did have to trim the plastic flaps on the doors a little so they would not get stuck. I also had to screw one into the side of the door to keep it down, yet the other ones are fine. The “insulation” is nice. However, the bottom of the house still feels firm and there isn’t much cushion. We’ll probably buy some straw (not hay) to put on the bottom for comfort and to regulate heat. I do like the fact that the installation covers the entirety of the cat house. It also zips up for easy installation and for cleaning.Overall, I think this is a fine cat house for the strays in your neighborhood. It is big enough to where you could put a small food bowl inside (I’m scared to put water since it might tip over). You’ll probably need to get something to fill in the cracks to keep out the cold air. I recommend the insulation cat house over the other without it. Especially with the cracks in the floor and how hard the wood is.If you are considering this house: please remember not to place blankets, towels, fleece, or even a pet bed in the house. If it were to get wet and cold, it will freeze inside the house. Hay will also hold moisture and may freeze. If you are looking into something that will regulate body heat and stay dry: always, always use straw!
