PLS 3G 3-Point Green Kit

Just got it and I love it. Seems way more durable than the older PLS3 versions. The green laser seems a bit dimmer than the older version, but still way brighter than the old PLS3 red or my old Bosch.

This is a very nicely built tool. It's sturdy and drop tested to 1m - although of course, drops are best avoided with tools like this because of the delicate internal mechanism. The best feature of this leveler is that the laser is mounted in a self-leveling gimbal so as long as you have the unit within 4 degrees of level, the laser will be perfectly level. And if you're not within 4 degrees of level, the unit will warn you about it by shutting off (unless you have pendulum lock mode on).This particular unit is a 3-point plumb line kit, so it only produces dots, not a full laser line. You could upgrade to the PLS 6G kit and get a point and line laser system for plumb lines, leveling, and square alignment. It's quite a bit more expensive but gives you a lot more versatility so that would be a worthy upgrade if you can afford it.You can also get a red laser version of this kit, but the green is a lot easier to see outdoors. The only downside with the green is that it uses up the batteries faster, but you still get 16 hours (vs 30 hours with the red laser), which is more than enough.The unit runs off three AA batteries, which are included. They included Duracell batteries, which I appreciate.The power button could get turned on by mistake when you pack it away, so I always take out the batteries before storing it. Also, make sure to put the laser in "lock" mode to protect it in storage or transit. I don't see this mentioned in the product manual but it's important to protect the inner pendulum.The yellow toolbox is nice enough but it's way bigger than it needs to be. There's an empty storage compartment in the lid that you could use to store smaller items like pens, etc.The one thing I dislike is that there is no printed manual included. You have to go to the PLS website to download a PDF. Also there's no indication of how to open the battery pack - I figured it out but it's not immediately obvious (you have to pry it open in the little slot at the top).

I just used this to create a reference point, in which I will be building a wall inside a van. This gave me a nice vertical line from floor to ceiling in which I can see exactly where my wall will be. All I had to to was level the van and put this bad boy on a tripod and level it and all the rest fell into place. Laser was easy to see a nice bright green. Great product that took the guess work out of the job!

I'll get straight to the point: It's dimmer and way bigger.The dot is smaller which might be a bonus for a contractor in a smaller space, but when you're trying to light up the edge of a beam 120ft above so your rigger can find it, the smaller beam is not a feature.The form factor is enough to make this a pretty worthless tool for a rigger. Our belts are crowded and heavy enough and I feel like I could fit maybe 3 cheaper lasers in the space of one of these new PLS's. Given that these are dimmer than the old ones, there's no longer incentive to buy the PLS over a bosch or some other cheapo.Please PLS: redesign this monster. I think you've gone from the laser that riggers use as a status symbol to barely usable. This is a miss.

No instructions a few pictures , don’t know where the battery compartment is or how to open it. I guess I’ll go online and see since they can’t seem to put simple instructions in on a $299 laser.

This seems to be a well-made tool. It does exactly what it says and not really much more. For this asking amount, I would expect some connectivity via an app or more functionality but it appears they went old-school and just made this a very sturdy tool that should be able to hold up to the daily abuses and uses. I was able to use this when building/replacing the framing for a wall that was torn down from mold due to the hurricane. It did a great job assisting me in making it level and square. I like this tool a lot but I think it is best used by a professional who will utilize it nearly daily.This thing is accurate! I tested it versus a comparable brand that was recently calibrated and it was right on-point. The laser was very, very visible compared to the red lasers that I have dealt with in the past (green does work a lot better in brighter rooms) and it was able to guide me with what I was doing. The buttons feel to be sturdy with some substance to them but not bulky or unresponsive.
