They say what they do, and the filters do what they say!
I have used these filtrete HVAC filters for a number of years and they have done what they promised, picking up so very much detritus. Personally, I think I should keep a visual check - when they get obviously dirty, change! When I've done that they seem to work at the level advertised, really well! And, ordered through Amazon, I can get them quickly and with minimal troubles.

Good MERV 13 HVAC Air Filter
Filtrete MPR 2200 16 x 20 x 1 HVA C Air Filter: I would say that this is a good HVAC air filter, and would probably be useful for people with allergies; its MERV rating is 13. It is generally advised not to buy filters above MERV 13 ratings, because a higher rating can obstruct air flow to the unit, and cause the unit to have to work harder. I have found that the Filtrete filters 1500 and 1550 also work well. Of course, Filtrete filters are not the least expensive, but they seem to do the job. Obviously, changing filters regularly is key, regardless of what brand you purchase.
