It is currently the recommended sweetener for women at risk of gestational diabetes and is considered safe during pregnancy and nursing. If you are concerned about your blood sugar, using some sucralose to substitute in things like ketchup is a safe way to keep carbohydrates low. Keep in mind that Splenda, and imitations of it, actually does contain carbohydrates as filler because pure sucralose is around 200 times sweeter than sugar. It has to be cut with a filler to make it measurable for use. Therefore, the Splenda you purchase at the store, does have carbs.
