CellarScience268B Oak Chips - French (1 lb)

I used this on some moonshine, grain alcohol and apple juice with spices.I split the batch into 2 x 32oz bottles to age for 6 weeks.1 oaked batch had 1oz of ships in the 1st batch which I put in the freezer for a 48 hours twice during the aging process. The other batch was just aged at room temperature in plastic quart container. After 2 weeks and strained out the chips using cheese cloth and a funnel.Taste testing after 4 weeks found the oaked batch of Apple Pie was smoother than the unoaked batch. The unoaked had a taste of the harsh grain alcohol giving it a less pleasing finish.I also used 1 oz of chips for 2 weeks with 2 48 hours in the freezer on a straight 40/60 grain/H2O aka whitelightning turned to Irish whiskey like. I was real happy with this considering the cost and wait time.Fun to play with and surprised with the results.

The product is described as untoasted oak chips, which is what I wanted. The package is clearly labeled "Medium Toast" in the middle of the label. Wasn't sure I wanted to open the package if I was going to return it. The small label added on near the bottom just has a different product number on it but nothing about toast or not toasted. When I Google that product number I get confirmation that these are untoasted. The mfr should have sprung for a bigger label that clearly says "Untoasted" in big letters. I confirmed they are not toasted when I opened the bag. Another reviewer had the same complaint a year ago - plenty of time to stop this confusion.

Incredible flavor profile. Have reordered already.

The bag was marked medium toast per the item description, but there was zero toast on the wood.
