The Official "BlueBook" Handbook of United States Coins 2025

I needed to grade a whole bunch of coins for a friend so they could determine overall value of their collection. We wrote down a list based on the coins by type, noted the year, the mint and the condition on completion. After that I then went through the list and checked out the pricing based on those factors which the Blue Book lists them by. For example, most the coins were in Good, Very Good, Very Fine and Extra Fine conditions and so determining prices was easy once we made up the list. The book does have additional conditions listed like Mint and Uncirculated conditions. However, if you have some serious high quality or rare coins worth lots of money, you sure don't need a Blue Book... you need an Auction House but for the amateur coin collector, it is nice once in a while to find you have the odd $100 coin. The book made it very easy to find the price a dealer would pay to buy a single coin from you.Do be aware, there is also a Red Book which is the price that a dealer will sell you a single coin (cos everyone has to make money in a business). Plus I emphasize "single coin". Be sensible, for example if you have a large collection of pre 1965 Silver Quarters, and try to sell them to a dealer they will always try to deal you with a low ball bulk price, also if you wanted to buy a roll of pre 1954 silver quarters, you'd also be expecting them to cut you a break on buying volume. So the Blue Book and Red Book are going to give you a range of values which you can use to determine a "fair" price. The one thing you need to learn in advance is how to grade a coins grade condition. The Blue Book does help you with that. Actually, you really need to read the first section of the book as it helps guide you through how to determine condition along with some excellent advice and guidance on all aspects of coin collecting. Some of the sections for specific coins will even guide you further. For example, for a Walking Liberty, it tells you to see if you can see the folds in the dress. I'm no expert but this book helped us considerably in getting an idea of each coins value. Sadly, we didn't find any Carson City minted coins that would have us dancing with glee ;-)

Good book to have if you are a coin collector. Comes in handy

This is the Buyers/Sellers guide. It's a good book to help you know what coins are selling for on average.The thing is . . . all you really need is the Red Book. For whatever coin is listed you just knock the listed value down by 20-30% and that's about what it sells for. I learned that by watching Pawn Stars.The book is good, I just wasted my money on learning what I already knew for the Red Book that I already had. (shrug)

It has the information you need about coins, but I found it hard to use. The last book I had was a spiral type and it was easier to lay flat. There are just so many categories of coins that it is not easy to find what you are looking for. However, I found everything I needed to. Just remember to read at the beginning of the book the basis of the pricing. The spot value of silver and gold change all the time so the value could be a little over or under what it actually is.

It gives you all the information you need to know about the coins you have.

We received the book and it looks like exactly what we need. We have many old coins. Most won't be worth much but at least this book will give us an idea of what we can get for them. Money is going away. They will soon be worthless.

The content seems to be comprehensive. The print is small in the paperback edition and can be hard on your eyes.
