Twinklefingers Level one BSL DVD box set

When starting this DVD, I knew the alphabet (mostly) and that is all. I've got to the end of the first DVD and can now remember everything on it (apart from the words to I can sing a rainbow! I can sign them, but I can't remember the lyrics to the middle bit!). Colin is an engaging teacher. Although some of the signing is very fast, I have replayed the DVD many times and am getting the hang of it. Practice makes perfect. I will hopefully be starting the BSL Level 1 course very soon and I believe going through these DVDs will give me a head start in terms of speed and understanding. I'm hoping to go on and be a teacher or classroom assistant, and this has really helped me feel that I could actually be able to do it. If you are unsure of which DVDs to buy to learn sign language, this set is worth considering. The teachers will guide you through learning the signs. Most chapters are quite short so you can play them again to practise the signs. Learning sign language is done through repetition and these DVDs are good for that. The programme is very simple and straightforward and easy for most people to follow. The only downside to this is that sometimes the teachers can sign different groups of words a bit too quickly but once you start practising and repeating the sections, it becomes easier to follow. I bought a set before and when someone else showed interest, I decided to buy another!

Liked that it can be watched with or without subtitles and easily choose which topics to watch. Would've preferred all on one disc. Bought to use as home study backup to class based level 1 BSL course currently doing.

I don't usually post reviews, but this DVD is really really excellent. I am using it as a supplement to my BSL Level 1 course. I have found it extremely helpful to have the subtitles as an option - I watch the short clip first to see how much I can understand, then check my understanding with the subtitles. Thank you so much for such a wonderful, easy to follow DVD. I loved it so much that I am going to buy Level 2!!!Following my order being placed, the DVD was with me very quickly - excellent service, thank you.

Many years ago I achieved CACDP level 1 in BSL, then a few years later I repeated the course as a refresher. I've recently been reviving what I'd forgotten, especially as I encounter some deaf people in my job and want to be able to provide better communication than no BSL at all, so I do try, although it is basic.These DVDs are the best I've found. I also have their level 2 set, which I am part way through and it's brilliant. For health and financial reasons I can't get to BSL classes, so these really are the next best thing. I know they can't really replace what you can get in a class but they are way better than other BSL DVDs in that they do teach you and get you to practise more than other BSL DVDs, which tend to be more like refreshers for people doing a course.I definitely recommend this set - either alongside a course or if you're like me and can't do a course but want something to learn on your own from. I also highly recommend 'Teach Yourself British Sign Language' to use alongside this.

I am on Level 1 and these three DVDs cover everything we learn in our class (Ref Unit 101, 102 & 103).I first had these DVDs from the Library and then I decided to buy them as they are excellent for practicingand improving what I accumulate but couldn't remember from the class.Books are fine but these are easier to follow and remember.Honestly, excellent and I look forward to Level 2 Series DVDs.Only one note: after about 2 months, I have noticed that the 3rd DVD was faulty.I have emailed to Twinkle Fingers and within 2 days I have received a replacement for the faulty one.So once again, excellent. I highly recommend this DVD.

I am currently on the BSL introduction to Sign Language and will be starting Level One soon. I have found this is slightly different to the course and the conversations too fast for a beginner. It is good for someone who is in the middle of level one and further but if you are looking for a companion to a beginners course or for a reference I would recommend the Let's Sign Dictionary. 2nd edition by Cath Smith. The numbers and colours are also slightly different in the dvds to what I am being taught in my lessons, but my tutor has told me that we have to take into account different veriations due to where you live in the country as a sign in Manchester may be slightly different in London. I feel that when I am progressing through my course then I will find this dvd easier to follow, but this, like the book should be used as a compliment to lessons and not instead of lessons. Also some of the signing is hard too see and not clear enough, especially in conversations.

This product is beyond excellent! I love it! REALLY straight forward and user friendly to say the least! Absolutely brilliant as it opens up doors to learning BSL that would otherwise cost a few hundred pounds by a course and I certainly couldn't afford that!! You really can't go wrong with Twinklefingers and for a 'variety' of reasons. So many benefits from purchasing this from them! Thank you for such an excellent product.
