The Story of Christmas Story Book Set and Advent Calendar (Workman Kids)

A great book with a tiny book containing a small part of the Christmas story each day. These then went on our little tree. My 6 year old. Loved doing this and is looking forward to repeating again this year.

Was bought as an alternative to chocolate for my friends children who are religious! Aged 3, 5 and 8.Some parents don’t like children having a lot of chocolate so I decided to buy this advent calendars for the children to share! What an absolutely brilliant buy!Every evening the children would take it in turns to get the days book and the family would sit together read the story of the nativity and then hang the little book on the Christmas 🎄 tree!Also it’s reusable they can use this advent calendar every year! Just need to make sure the Christmas tree is up on the 1stDefinitely worth the money and lovely family gift! Bringing the true meaning of Christmas

I am so pleased with this. Roll on Christmas! Each little book is like a mini board book, so quite sturdy, and is beautifully illustrated inside and out in full glossy colour. The calendar itself is slightly more fragile, so supervision might be required to make sure it can be reused each year. My calendar was delivered in a padded jiffy bag, but sadly got bent in the post, so already sports some scars.The story is obviously a religious one, but told in such as way as to be accessible to children who have not been brought up as Christian but who enjoy hearing and learning more about the story of the nativity. The books are fairly short, for example the third book 'Mary' reads 'In the village of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary. As a child she went with her mother to the Jerusalem temple, where she learned to pray and live a holy life. When she grew up, Mary was promised in marriage to a carpenter named Joseph, who loved her for her kind and generous ways and for the wisdom in her heart.' Each day covers a particular element of the story in roughly chronological order, so perfect if you want to coincide it with bringing out figures from a nativity set.

The Story of Christmas helped get our children focussed on the story and meaning of Christmas this year. We do usually aim to get them an advent calendar that doesn't just supply chocolate or deliver pictures of snowmen, and this really bolstered that idea - the kids really looked forward to their turn to read out the day's story and hang it on the tree, and the books actually made great tree decorations.My only gripe (hence four stars rather than five) is that the story in the books was a little bit too creative in filling in the gaps in the gospel story - nothing that was "off message", but I'd have preferred a writing style that was clearer about which bits were made up. However, that's a personal preference - I'd still recommend this readily to anyone trying to keep the meaning of Christmas alive in their family.

Purchased this for my 6, 8 & 11 year old so we could stay on focused on the real reason for Christmas. Quality Advent story book which all my children enjoyed. Great fun adding each book to the Christmas tree each day. Highly recommend.

I used to read this every year at Christmas a child about 20-25 years ago, and over time the original has lost books and is quite worn. I didn't think it would still be available, but I am really pleased with this purchase. Great story of Christmas in a short child friendly layout for advent

I adore this and it will now be a family favourite at Chrismas for many years. My grandchildren aged 2 to 6 adored it; reading the story daily right up to Christmas Day is a great way to help children understand and really appreciate the story of Christmas, which is the story of the Nativity, the birth of baby Jesus. They loved getting each of the little books out daily and carefully putting them back (they are not normally so careful but seemed to know and respect this Book / Advent Calendar realising it is special). Well made quality product. Good customer care too.

We have used this Advent Calendar in our family since the mid 1990's and never tire of it. Now all the family have their own and it is great to think that we all read the little books each day as we travel through Advent. Once read, we hang the books from our Christmas tree with the largest, from Christmas Eve, taking pride of place at the top. It's a great calendar and so much better than chocolate!
