Q: Any ideas for the best way to cut the cake to put the Barbie down into it?

Many people just use a knife to cut out the center, if this isn't for you, you can use an apple corer or a large plastic dowel. You can push the dowel rod all the way through the cake to get the initial hole, then you can widen the cavity with a knife or round cookie cutter to get it the correct size to fits the doll.

Q: I bought a fashionista barbie but the hips are too wide to fit! are there any barbies that have smaller hips that you can recommend?

You can try dolls from the dollar store, their bottoms also come off easier

Q: What is the diameter of the largest portion?

It is 6 inches in diameter. I had a 5 tier cake/cupcake stand and I used the second smallest (11 inch) square tier and made a volcano cake. It sat nicely on the 11 inch and allowed me to do grass and rocks and dinosaurs around it on the 11 inch stand. It wouldn't make a cake that would serve more than 8 people if the slices were small.
