California Soap Supply Lye 2 Pounds

I have used Red Crown lye for my cold process soaps and decided to use this brand to save a couple bucks. No matter how much I mix this lye I still have to strain it and for the first time ever I have ended up with lye chunks in a very expensive batch of soap. The same soap also took an unusually long time to firm up for cutting. Two small batches was all it took for me to decide I won't be using this again- highly unusual for me since I am frugal and usually make myself finish sub par products to curb wastefulness. I won't buy again. I did find a cheaper 100% pure lye at wal mart dot com that I am very pleased with.

5/2017: Seems like it works well enough! And the owner sent a coupon again for the next time I purchase! Can't beat that!8/2017: Works really well for making soap! I have made lots of different kinds now! This reacts well with coffee, tea, water, coconut milk and probably much more! After letting the soap cure 4-6 weeks, I don't get any chemical burns from the sodium hydroxide because it has fully saponified with the oils!

When I opened the box that was containing the lye jar, it had COMPLETLY spilled all over the box - a dangerous situation if I had put my hand in the box. I expect a replacement.

We've found that California Soap Supply lye works better for our soap making than other brands. The small size of the particles means that it combines more quickly and efficiently with our frozen goat milk to give a better quality to our goat milk soap. It even seems that our soap mixture reaches trace more quickly!

If I could rate lower, I would. Did not dissolve!! I’ve been making soap for a long time and I’ve never had this problem. I made 2 batches of soap and both times it did not dissolve. What a waste!! I tried to leave a message on the California Soap Supply website, but error every time. Not only a horrible product, but poor customer service as well. Definitely will not be buying this again!

Until I purchased this product, I had not made soap for a very long time. This product was easy to use and my simple soap came out beautifully. Will purchase again. Highly recommended.

I use this to make soap and it does pretty good. You have to use in a well ventalted area ill tell you that or use your shirt to cover your nose, and yes it gets hot bit its perfect for making soap and im happy with it.

Great quality lye and nice packaging. Pretty overpriced for 2lbs of lye... didn’t know that as this was the first time I had bought lye but now I know it’s way too expensive for what it is.
