Well Pleased!
The hand winch works just as described and as I hoped. I use it in portable mode, so instead of anchoring it to a fixed object, I built a base for it from lumber on hand, fastening it down with three The Hillman Group 230086 Hex Lag Screw, 3/8-Inch X 2-1/2-Inch, Zinc, The base does not carry the winch load -- I anchor the winch to a fixed object such as a tree using a Towing Strap Pro ( Tow Straps with Hooks - The Quick and Effective 20 Feet Long 10000 Lb Capacity Heavy Duty ... ) and crank the winch to pull a load, generally a log. As shown in the photo, the base lifts the winch up so that the crank does not hit the ground. Connecting the winch to the base is not difficult, just tedious because of limited clearance underneath -- I used shims to put the lag screws where I could get a wrench on the head, then a thinner shim as the gap closed.

and I hate forcing my husband to drive 20 minutes just to ...
My husband bought this to add to our homemade 4-wheeler trailer, not only to help hold it in place and limit the amount of straps required, but also as a deer retrieval tool for me. I'm not strong enough to lift a deer by myself, and I hate forcing my husband to drive 20 minutes just to help me load a deer. Now all I have to do is drag the deer with the 4-wheeler to the trailer, then attach it to the winch to drag it onto the trailer. Then I just have to load the 4-wheeler and drive home. No more sore backs and shoulders. No more near heart attacks. What used to take an hour, takes less than 10 minutes. So far, it's worked great. It's strong enough to pull the 4-wheeler up the ramps and hold it securely. I can easily use it one handed without straining. I'm not sure how long it will last, but I will update if it breaks.

Looks great, at least one defective part
Winch looks great and worked ok until I was pulling my 2,000 pound boat out of the water and one of the shafts connected to the handle snapped. Luckily it was almost up and it has the secondary shaft so I was able to get home. But now I’m worried if it happens again I’m going to be in a bad situation.

High Load, Low Cost
I mounted this winch on my boat trailer to assist with loading the boat on the trailer from the water. It does a great job, was easy to mount, and is simple to use. The best part was the fact that it has such a high load range while maintaining a low cost!

Had a defective unit but the company replaced it
Initially, it seemed sturdy and reasonably well-made. However, the first time I used it with a load of probably around 500 (definitely well under 1000) lbs, one of the bushings around the central gear shaft broke off. That part seems to be made out of poor quality, brittle cast iron. Fortunately, the shaft didn't move far enough to separate the gears, so the load didn't break free, but I had to carefully shore up the load before trying to release it.Update: i-Lift contacted me based on my review and sent me a replacement unit right away. I haven't had a chance to try out the replacement, but I appreciate the great customer service.

After only one use, one of the pin's bearing broke down and now i have to spend more money to fix it or to buy another with higher quality.
