Amazing Book Based on a True Story
I’ve been begging for years for Amazon to contact the publisher to make this a Kindle option because somehow my paperback was lost in a move. I have chronic migraines and it’s easier for me to read on a Kindle. New paperbacks were hard to find too. Thank goodness for anniversary editions! An Audible version to boot, that’s really great news for my head! (Kellie Martin is perfect because she played Christy in the TV series) I don’t reread books. I just don’t. Not even great books. I can’t count the number of times I’ve read this book. It is the exception. I just get in the mood to go back in time and read this marvelous story again. I’m not a teacher, but many in my family are and I think any teacher would really appreciate the circumstances this young woman pushed through to teach.

Worth reading.
It can be difficult nowadays to find a book of quality, as so much today that is supposed to be entertaining leaves me feeling like I am the last person around who is not drawn to foul language, sex, or murder. If you are looking for a book of hope, friendship, love, and faith, then read Christy. The book was endearing from the first to the last page. I read quite a bit and I do not recommend books very often to my mother. I called her the minute I finished this book and spoke to her the words she hears from me maybe once a year, “I have a book I want you to read.”

One of my all-time favorite books!
I first read this book as a teenager back in the early 70's. I've read it at least a dozen times more and it remains one of my favorite books of all time. Riveting, fascinating and a study of how mountain folk lived before paved roads, electricity and even decent medicine. I love this book passionately and will soon be rereading it once again.

Great Read
Overall, I'd say this was a reat read, although, it felt a bit dated at first, and I did feel that the author played up the "mountain stereotype"(lazy, drunkeness, uneducated, dirty, and possible inbreeding, among other things), a bit too much. For all this is a fictional account, based on her mother's own experience, who taught school in the mountains, I cannot help but feel she exaggerated some aspects and leaned into them a bit more than was necessary. Now all of that aside, I found myself captivated by Christy's story, her struggles, triumphs, and failures, as she struggled to find a place among these people. And I liked how the more Christian aspects were shown and handled, in a very real way, the struggles that the characters had regarding their faith (or lack thereof), made them seem all the more real. Highly Recommend!!!

Weird glitch.
I love this story! There are a few "glitches" in this kindle format. Prologue and chapter one and three begin with text in a font that is different than the following paragraph. Also there are incomplete sentences where the two meet. I am wondering what content I am missing when the fonts change and the reading isn't a smooth flow. Can you check on this? I haven't had this happen with any of the kindle books I have purchased in the past. Thanks.

"Christy" is an exciting and moving personal account of a young woman's experience in the hill country of Tennessee. At the age of nineteen, with no teaching experience, the class she was to teach consisted of 60 plus students ranging in grades one through twelve in one classroom--plus no supplies! It's been a beloved story for years, and you'll find out why if you choose to read it!

One of my favorite novels of all time
This is one of the best novels I've ever read—and I've read hundreds. I first read Christy when I was in fifth grade, and it's one of the few novels I've read multiple times. Catherine Marshall wrote with a literary flair, yet the plot kept pages turning at the same time. Inspiring and profound. Highly recommended.

My favorite book of all time
My favorite book of all time. When it first came out, over 10 million sold and it was on the NY Times Bestseller List for 40 weeks. At one time it was required reading for every 7th grader in America. It still should be.

Riveting!
Many years ago, I chose this book because of the way "Christy" was spelled. It was the way I spelled my name. It has remained one of my all time favourite books. I was captivated from the first page and have re-read it many, many times. I wish they would bring it out in audio book form!!!

Great book!
I really enjoy this book. I bought the hardcover because I know it's going to be one that I read over and over again. If you like Little Women, or Little House on the Prairie, you'll like Christy!*It is different from the adapted young adult books and the TV series.
