Frankenstein YJ 4x4 Control
Disconnect is a mechanical marvel that I added to my Frankenstein YJ, and it has truly transformed the off-road capabilities of my Jeep. This innovative device solves the common issue of vacuum-operated axle engagement and provides reliable and precise control over my 4x4 system. If you're looking for a durable and efficient solution to upgrade your Jeep's off-road performance, the Posi-Lok is the way to go. Furthermore, the PSL900 is compatible with a wide range of Jeep models, including the Frankenstein YJ in my case. This versatility ensures that Jeep enthusiasts can enjoy the benefits of this mechanical axle disconnect, regardless of their specific vehicle model.

Great item for my Jeep
I like the fact that you can lock 4wd with a great connector. I used the factory vacuum lock and it never was as positive as this item. You pull it out and your locked in. I like that. The vacuum technology is way out dated. When you need 4wd locked in, this will do it! I think it is well worth the money. I had it professionally installed, my mechanic says you have to route the cable so it doesn't get close to your exhaust. He said that was the biggest challenge.

1989 YJ worked great!
I was very pleased with the Posi-Lok, some of the install would have been easier with 2 sets of hands, but I took my time and found the best route for installation. For my purposes I mounted the push/pull disconnect just to the right of my emergency brake handle, and while I have a 3" lift I went with the standard length PSL900 and it worked perfectly. I didn't use the stock 4x4 indicator light in the dash as my firewall mounted vacuum switch is faulty, so I installed an LED indicator in the dash panel and wired the ground for it through the switch on the Posi-Lok at the CAD, so far through several test drives switching from in & out of 4x4 it's worked well, and I like the added benefit of being able to run in 2wd in low range which going with this mechanical disconnect allows!

Got it installed and working but...
The product is well built and packaged. Installation is fairly straightforward. The only reason I'm dropping two stars off is the lack of information on the installation instruction sheet for two steps in the install.Pros -* All parts shipped in a box with instructions (more on the instructions later)* It is really well built and looks like it will last a long time if you route the cable away from moving, hot or sharp objects. I took the advice of the information sheet and covered the cable in precarious areas with small sections of hose that I put on afterward by slitting the hose lengthwise and zip tying it in place.Cons -These are mostly based on poor instructions and I'll explain.* Installation went pretty smoothly but be aware that the circlips are a %&^%&^% to install. There are three of them.* The cable is adjustable at the housing end and the instructions tell you to be sure the cable moves the fork to both positions in the housing. If you need to adjust this you will have to pull the housing off again. Not a deal-breaker but also not something you can be sure about once you get it completely installed. A video guide would be helpful.* There isn't any mention that the cable also adjusts at the knob end, or at least it does on mine. Twisting the knob moves the default position but there is no mention of this in the manual. Not sure where to have this so I turned it about halfway out to allow for some adjustability from that end. Not sure if that was the right thing to do or not.Why did I purchase this kit?My 1991 Jeep Cherokee sport came with a cable already installed but it never worked right. I called Posi Lok and determined it was an Alloy branded product. I then asked the customer service agent if I could buy just a replacement cable from them for the Alloy product but was told that it wouldn't fit. Looking at it during removal and installation the parts seem to be almost identical. I would have gladly purchased a new cable but was also told that none were available.I then called the number for Alloy that I got from an online instruction sheet and was told the same. "You cannot buy the cable alone". Not sure if that's fully correct or that I was being convinced to buy the whole kit.I ended up buying the Posi Lok version because it was the same price and was the originator of the kit.

Good instructions, simple install, works well.
Relatively simple install, instructions were great and easy to follow. Fixed the failed vacuum system on my YJ and the 4WD light on the dash even still works. Only thing I would recommend is new bolts for the CAD cover, kit didn’t come with them but was able to pick them up at my local hardware store. 1/4x20 1” if anyone else needs the size.

Works great, love the option of 2wd low
I recommend this for anybody running a jeep with a FAD. Never a vacuum issue, dirrct mechanical connection, adds selectable 2WD low, which is an expensive option of you try to twin stick or put on the long shaft shifter for the np231. The only thing I don't like is the cable routing, it is a bit combersome getting the cable to route somewhere it won't touch any moving parts or hot surfaces. Also, this allows you to shift into 4wd and then "shift on the fly" by engaging the FAD or not. That's how Toyota does their shift on the fly.
